I am starting a new section in NepaliActress – #FlashBack. In this section, I will be talking about interesting Nepali actress and interesting events in the the past. While talking about the actresses in this section, I will choose an actress such that there is at least one or some the events that happened in at least 5 to 10 years ago.

For example, today’s topic is about Pooja Lama. Pooja left the film industry in 2009/10. So everything I talk about Pooja will be at least 6 years or older. I will try to give the dates, but many of the events might be undated as they are based on the re-collations of myself, or you (through comments) or my friends, or the journalists. Let’s start by Pooja Lama:

Pooja Lama was a versatile personality:

• Pooja started her career as a model. She was the first Nepali model who posed for top-less photo. She was highly criticized for the photo. But, these days, such photoshots have become common.
• She formed a musical band and released music albums. Three girls – Pushpa Sunuwar, Pooja Lama, and Chanda Lama had formed the all-girls-musical band in the late 2000s. They had also released a music album.
• Pooja also acted in movies. Pooja debuted in Rajesh Hamal and Bipana Thapa starrer movie ‘Papi’ by director Narayan Puri. (watch ‘Papi’ in xnepali)

Some of the controversies surrounding Pooja Lama are:

• Marriage at 18 years with Biraj Lepchan and divorce within a year (She has a son out of the marriage).
• There was a report of an affair with a guy when she was in Belgium. It was rumoured that, the guy’s family stopped him from going back to Belgium after he returned back to Kathmandu.
• Suicide attempt – When Pooja’s affair with Dinesh DC failed she tried to kill herself.
• Release of sex scandal video with DJ Shishir (Shishir Sangtyan). Shishir and Pooja married soon after the release of the scandal video.
• After problems in relationship with DJ Shishir she left country and went to Doha and lived there for about six months.
• After 6 months of living in Doha, she returned back as Amna Faruki, a Muslim lady in burka.
• Pooja told that she quit smoking, drinking and other drugs. But, after that, nothing is heard of the actress, model and singer.
